Congratulations to Anne Marie Fog Sandal, recipient of Saly’s Horse 2026
On Friday, 15 May, as the Smedje Festival kicked off with a cozy street café atmosphere, this year’s recipient of Saly’s Horse was announced.
Saly’s Horse is a teaching award within the veterinary programme. The award was established by VMF to recognise high-quality teaching, which — seen from the students’ perspective — should not be considered a secondary activity alongside research, but should be valued and prioritised in its own right.
Saly’s Horse itself is a sculpture created by Elna Christiansen and is a smaller replica of the original horse statue standing in front of Amalienborg. The sculptor of the original statue was Jacques Saly, which is why the award bears the name “Saly’s Horse.”
This year, as many as 20 veterinary teachers were nominated, and it has been difficult to choose among the many strong nominations.
Anne Marie Fog Sandal, who teaches general clinical practice (companion animals) and clinical examination methodology, was ultimately selected as the winner. In the nomination, she is praised, among other things, for her ability to create a safe and positive learning environment in clinical settings, enabling students to focus on learning and grow through challenges.
Teachers in veterinary medicine make a significant daily contribution to educating the next generation of veterinarians, and it is wonderful to see this work recognised in the many thoughtful nominations submitted by students.
